Walk a block off Clearwater Beach in July and the air tastes like the Gulf. Drive twenty minutes inland to Greenbriar and the same afternoon feels like a different town: wide lawns, flat light, sprinklers running at odd hours. Clearwater is really two lawn climates sharing one mailing address.

St. Pete Lawncare works both halves of the city. We handle weekly mowing and edging, irrigation repairs and seasonal resets, and the turf care that sits between them.

Two lawn climates inside one city

On the beach side, the small lots take the full hit. Salt spray settles on the blades, sodium builds up in sandy soil, and the breeze that feels great on the porch dries grass out fast. Irrigation heads, hose bibs and fence hardware corrode sooner out here too.

Inland, the problems flip. Countryside, Morningside Estates, Greenbriar and Northridge run larger lots in all-day sun, on sand that drains quickly and leaches nutrients before the roots can take them up. Most of those yards have irrigation systems that get reset twice a year, or never.

What Clearwater homeowners notice first:

  • •A chalky film on windows and cars
  • •Turf that browns along the driveway
  • •Sprinkler heads watering the street
  • •Pale, thin grass in the sunniest strip

Both problems are fixable. They just don't take the same fix.

The frustration: advice that assumes one Clearwater

Search for lawn care in Clearwater and you get the same script everywhere: mow weekly, water deep, feed monthly. None of it mentions which side of town you live on.

Salt-side yards need rinsing, salt-aware plant choices and more patience. Inland yards need the opposite mix: a mowing height that shades its own root zone and an irrigation clock that follows the season instead of whatever the installer left in place. Run one plan across both and you either drown a beach lot or starve a sunny one.

Same city. Two sets of problems.

Clearwater waters on its own schedule

Clearwater runs its own water utility, so Clearwater households do not follow the Pinellas County Utilities calendar. Under the current shortage order, lawn irrigation in the city is limited to once a week. Even-numbered addresses (or A-M) may water on Wednesdays, and odd-numbered addresses (or N-Z) may water on Thursdays, along with mixed or unnumbered addresses. Irrigation is allowed only between 12:01 and 4 a.m. or 8 and 11:59 p.m., and a property under one acre may use just one of those windows.

Pinellas County says the same thing from the other direction: households that don't buy water from the county should confirm their days with their own supplier. For Clearwater, that supplier is the city.

The schedule in short:

  • •Even or A-M: Wednesday
  • •Odd or N-Z: Thursday
  • •Window: 12:01-4 a.m. or 8-11:59 p.m.
  • •Under one acre: one window only

Miss your day and you wait another week.

What we do on a Clearwater property

Every visit is built around the lot in front of us, not a template.

Mow at the right height

Standard St. Augustinegrass cultivars should be cut at 3.5 to 4 inches, not the scalped one-inch pass that thins a lawn and invites weeds. We set the deck and leave it there.

Reset the clock for the season

Heads get knocked crooked, nozzles clog, and a controller set in April is wrong by August. We aim and run each zone, then adjust the run times to the season and to the day Clearwater allows you to water.

Fix the soil before the feeding

Pinellas sand holds water and nutrients poorly, so we correct what sits under the turf first. Dense grass covers the ground and crowds out weeds better than any spray alone.

The reward: a lawn that holds its color

Get the basics right and a Clearwater yard stops fighting the coast. UF/IFAS lists St. Augustinegrass and zoysia as the best home-lawn choices for ocean exposure, since they handle salt spray even though they can't be irrigated with saltwater. St. Augustinegrass carries relatively good salt tolerance as a species, and some cultivars take shade better than other warm-season grasses.

On the sunniest inland strips, southern chinch bug is the major insect pest of St. Augustinegrass and does real damage when nobody is watching for it. Catching it early is a mowing-height habit, not luck.

What that looks like by summer:

  • •Grass that stays green into the dry weeks
  • •Clean edges along concrete and beds
  • •Cans and windows that lose the salt film
  • •Fewer bare patches when the rain finally comes

What Clearwater lawn care costs

Most Clearwater residential lawns fall between $35 and $75 per visit for basic maintenance. We quote your lot instead of reading from a menu, because lot size, salt exposure, bed edging and the condition of your irrigation all move the number.

For salt-side yards we also suggest plants that shrug off salt air so the beds hold up alongside the turf. Neighbors just south of us on similar lots get the same treatment through our Largo lawn care.
